Brokers need to enhance their online offering to tackle the issue of lenders increasingly going direct to consumers, according to analysis by Evaluate Technologies.

Research from Evaluate shows that nearly 40% of currently available mortgage products are direct-only, while 29% are available through brokers.

Julie Speed, national accounts director at Evaluate Technologies, said that with nearly 40% of mortgages currently available through the direct only channel, brokers need a solution which enables them to compete effectively and offer strong services to customers.

She added: "Borrowers are looking online and this is continuing to grow so brokers need to be in that space too so that they have an opportunity with the life protection and other insurances which they are currently missing."

Speed commented that there has already been a shift of brokers and networks who have embraced online opportunities.

"They understand the new landscape of the mortgage market and understand that online does not have to be a threat to them and offers them a solution to help them achieve their potential," she explained.

Stating the obvious

These people are living in a different world to most brokers. Does stating the patently obvious mean that we have to take their utterings seriously?

Evaluate mutterings?`

Can someone, preferably Evaluate, please confirm what benefit their company play in explaining the obvious? What does Evaluate's 'groundbreaking research' offer to anyone except rambling on about things that offer no benefit to anyone? I think brokers and lenders know what is happening in the marketplace - we dont need a company to re-iterate 'that brokers need to do more'. For your information Mssrs Evaluate - many people still prefer to deal with brokers and many lenders do still support intermediaries. Please do some useful research and something informative. Thanks
